Kusale's achievement marked India's third shooting medal of the Games and the nation's first-ever Olympic medal in the arduous 50m three-positions event, traditionally considered the marathon of precision shooting sports.
Starting cautiously in the Kneeling and Prone rounds, the 29-year-old from Kambalwadi in Kolhapur district staged a sensational comeback during the elimination Standing series. Kusale repeatedly fired 10.5+ decimals while European challengers faltered under the ticking clock.
He eliminated Czech Republic's Jiri Privratsky and Norway's Jon-Hermann Hegg before securing bronze alongside China's Liu Yukun (Gold, 463.6) and Ukraine's Serhiy Kulish (Silver, 461.3).
